What’s the best time of the year to discover Mongolia?
Most convenient time to see Mongolia is May to September. June or September is the best months to travel to Gobi which are not extremely hot there. July is also lovely for journeys to Northern destinations where mountainous grassy area and lakes. Nomads produce dairy products, livestock enjoy the time. July is crowded month for central Mongolia due to “Naadam” Festival. National celebration atmosphere covers whole country during these days. How do I get to Mongolia?
Direct flights from: Beijing, Seoul, Moscow and Berlin come into Mongolia. There are domestic flights or trains in Ulaanbaatar city to various destinations within the country. If you take train into Mongolia, there is the Trans- Mongolian train from Moscow or Beijing.

Is Mongolia safe country?
Mongolia is relatively safe country because of Buddhist religion and superstition. Criminal, terrorism or kidnappings are comparatively unknown understanding within the population. But like most countries, pickpockets could stole or slit bags. That could happen in UB in the bus, black market or tourist crowded places occasionally. So personal watchfulness may not let it happen or valuables should be kept in a money belt and kept underneath your clothing or can ask safe box at hotel. Women traveling alone are usually treated with respect and friendship in Mongolia.
Do I need travel insurance?
We highly recommend our tourists to travel in Mongolia with valid comprehensive travel insurance. Travel insurance will protect you from risks could happen during your trip. Make it one of your first packages for the vacation.
Tell me about accommodations?
You will stay at the hotel in Ulaanbaatar. In countryside mostly accommodate comfortable camps of traditional dwellings.
Ger is Mongolian traditional felt dwelling. It has pretty little dimension contains inside traditional furniture including 2-4 beds, table and chairs exc. People all over the country have been living in this unique dwelling for centuries. Today tour camps based on traditional accommodation have improved their area with electricity (some camps locate far from infrastructure have renewable electricity like solar panel exc…) modern restrooms, hot shower and restaurant. There is laundry service, souvenir shop, sometimes post where you can drop cards.
If in your itinerary there is camping days in a tent that means our company will provide all camping necessity including tent, kitchen utensils. Tourist should bring personal sleeping bag, mat and personal gear.
Electric voltage
In Mongolia the voltage is 220 V. Mostly sockets that accept round twin forks are used. If your gadget plug has flat forks you need fork adapter or convertor. You can plug camera, batteries and other electrical items in tour camps.
Currency and payment
Mongolian currency is Tugrik (₮) 1 USD = 1280 ₮ (November 1st, 2011)
Mongolia is cash based society. US dollar more acceptable and well known currency. Euro too. Dollar bills should be not older than about 10 years, or nobody will accept them. In UB many exchange shops with best rates. During the trip for your personal and other usage you better to carry some local money and better exchange in first day of your arrival. Because tour mostly direct to countryside in next days.
Most acceptable cards in 24 hours ATM machines at international airport, UB or cities are Visa, MasterCard, American Express and JCB. Banks in the cities show all services too.
Some commercial banks issue Traveler’s cheques but we recommend credit cards more than. Famous tourist places like store, souvenir shops, and restaurants accept cards.
Food
Mongolian food is dairy products and boiled mutton or beef meat based. Mongolian nomadic husbandry based on 5 kinds of animal there are horse, camel, cow, sheep and goat. Various dumplings, noodle soup or barbeque are said as traditional meals. Variety of beverages as well as milk tea, yogurt, fermented milks and distilled vodka ex., famous in Mongolia.
In UB, there are international cuisines or gala dinner restaurants. Camps, restaurants and local canteens provide Mongolian, Western and Asian meals for tourists. If your trip camp in a tent in exotic nature, our stuffs will cook for you. If you want to cook by your self it is another fun. If you are vegetarian, please let us know.
Mobile connections in Mongolia
Mongolian provinces and administrative units have connected mobile services today. GSM and CDMA are most reliable in Mongolia. In far destinations, especially behind hills network coverage sometimes shorten or does not work. Some villages got different mobile operators connections cover numerous villages. Your Mongolian staffs could have mobiles, work in those areas. Pre- paid International call cards are widely use. If you use mobile unites for international calls would cost very expensive but that is possible.
Internet or postal service in Mongolia
In Ulaanbaatar, there are numerous internet cafes along the street. Hotels usually have a business, internet rooms or Wi-Fi. In Ulaanbaatar, there is central post office where you can buy nice stamps, postcards and envelopes. Some tour camps sell those at souvenir shops and sometimes if there is post drop service which contacts state postal after several days, no worry to drop posts there. Little villages also got post & communication buildings. The post is reasonably reliable although it may take some time to reach its destination.
